STEP 1: Download and install BetterDisplay

  • Go to Google.

  • Type "BetterDisplay" in the search bar.

  • Go to the "MacUpdate BetterDisplay" website.

  • Click on "Download".

  • A pop-up will appear — click on "Download" again.

  • Open the downloaded file.

  • Click on "BetterDisplay".

  • Click on "Open".


STEP 2: Create a virtual display and set up custom resolutions

  • At the top of the screen, click the BetterDisplay icon.

  • At the bottom of the window, click the gear icon.

  • Go to "Display", then "Summary".

  • Click on "Create new virtual display".

  • Give your virtual display a name.

  • Tick the box "Use list of custom resolutions".

  • Create the following four custom resolutions:
    • 1600 × 900
    • 1324 × 745
    • 1280 × 720
    • 1024 × 576

  • Link the virtual display to the physical display you want to configure.

  • Click on the chip icon.

  • Click "Connect".

  • Go to "Resolution settings".

  • Enable HiDPI resolutions.


STEP 3: Adjust the monitor and screen positioning

  • Click on the Apple menu (top left of the screen).

  • Select "System Settings".

  • Click on "Displays".

  • Select the real display "X2 PLUS".

  • Click on "Extended Display", then select "Mirror for Virtual Display".

  • Go to the new virtual display ("Virtual X2 PLUS").

  • Choose one of the newly available HiDPI resolutions.

  • Click on "Arrange" and position the displays as you prefer.
